Introduction: The use of probiotics as food supplements is one of the ways to improve performance of the immune system and increase tolerance to infectious diseases.
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the probiotic on the cellular and humoral immune responses in Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) chickens, leghorne strain following vaccination with the clone Newcastle disease (ND) vaccine.
Materials and Methods: A total of 120 SPF chickens were randomly allotted into a completely randomized design with six experimental groups (2×3 factorail arengment) and reared up to 10 weeks of age. The chickens received one dose of the vaccine by eye-drop method at 7 and 21 days of age and fed by probiotic throughout the experimental period. Weekly blood sampling was conducted to evaluate the humoral immune response against Newcastle disease virus (NDV). In addition, cellular immune response was measured by basophil skin sensitivity and T lymphocyte proliferation tests.
Results: Among the experimental groups, the use of the Razi clone vaccine and feeding with Hypro-Zyme probiotic improved the antibody titer against NDV (P<0.05). This group also showed a higer basophilic skin sensitivity response and increased T lymphocytes compared to chickens vaccinated with imported clone vaccine and not fed with probiotics (P<0.05).
Conclusion: In general, the results showed that feeding Hypro-Zyme probiotic increased the antibody titers against NDV titer in SPF chickens vaccinated with clone vaccine and also stimulate more cell-mediated immune systems. With these results, it is expected that feeding Hypro-Zyme probiotic in vaccinated birds may associated with more resistance against virulent NDV due to the improved immune system response.
