Abstract

Buthotus saulcyi is one of the six most important scorpion species in Khuzestan province, which its venom causes probable general effects on its victims. Due to insufficient knowledge about mechanism of the venom functions and its target organs and highly dependence of health to normal function of kidney, this survey has been accomplished. In present study, 75 male Wistar rats were selected and divided randomly to five groups (A-E). Then 18, 24, 30 and 36 µgr/Rat of the venom and 1ml normal saline was injected subcutaneously to groups A-E, respectively. After 3, 6, 12 and 36 hours of envenomation, blood sampling, euthanasia and necropsy were performed. Histopathological study was performed on renal tissue samples and verification of BUN, uric acid, creatinine, Na and K of blood samples, were also measured. Results showed no significant correlation between injection of examined doses of the venom and renal lesions but significant modification in some blood parameters depended to dose and time were seen(P<0.05). Therefore it can presume that although examined doses of the venom can affect renal index parameters of blood but these amounts of venom have not much ability to induce renal lesions.
